EDGAR is the electronic filing system through which publicly-traded companies and other market participants submit documents required by law to be filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, including filings of required financial information. Almost all documents filed through EDGAR are made available to the public instantaneously through EDGAR’s online database, which can be accessed for free from any web browser. EDGAR serves as both an efficient means to file and disseminate required disclosure documents and a searchable repository of historic SEC filings. No single reporting system, such as EDGAR, exists within the European Union.
